Style icon Dannii Minogue is a role model to women everywhere. Appearing on many best-dressed lists for Heat, Marie Claire andThe Guardian amongst others, she sure is one you can take advice from when you’re wondering what to wear. You can now find out all her fashion secrets as she has penned her very own style bible, titled Dannii Minogue: My Style.
Attending her book launch in Birmingham, Dannii dazzled us by wearing a dress from her very own label, Project D. After the photographers snapped away, I got a chance to have a chat with her. Here is what she had to say.
Lucia: You must feel great to be able to bring out this book full of all your style tips. What is the most important piece of advice you have written in your book?
Dannii: The most important piece of advice is you must feel comfortable with how you are dressed. No matter who you are or what you look like, if you don’t feel comfortable you wont pull the look off. It’s all about the comfort and that brings confidence.
L: Which part of your book did you enjoy writing the most?
D: In my book, I have gone right into the past of all the fashions and styles I have come across in my time. That was really fun and brought back a lot of memories seeing some of the things I used to wear when particular fashions were out. I could say some of my looks were a little embarrassing but I must of felt good in it at the time as I never wear something I don’t feel comfortable in.
L: Many people see you as a style icon. Who is your style icon?
D: I have many people that inspire me and have mentioned them all in my book. I love Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Kate Moss, Elizabeth Taylor. I hope to inspire people like they inspired me.
L:I love the dress you are wearing tonight which is from your Project D label. What is next for Project D?
D: We are hoping to expand the brand and bring out perfumes, shoes and bags as well as clothes. I am so happy with how our label has turned out and want our label to appeal to every woman. I am very excited about the future of Project D.
L: You have attended many red carpet events and celeb parties. What is your advice to somebody if they turned up at a party and was wearing the same dress as you?
D: I strongly believe that everybody should have their own individual style. Even if you were wearing the same dress as somebody else, you should make it your own by styling it differently. Style is a personal thing. To make sure you don’t look the same as somebody else at a party, whether or not you have the same outfit, you need to put your own twist on to the outfit, then it wouldn’t look the same. I also don’t think fashion should be competitive. I grow very tired of constantly having my outfit compared to others. I just wear what I feel good in and that is what I believe everybody should do.
Dannii Minogue: My Style, can be purchased in all major bookstores now.

After big sister Kylie’s battle with breast cancer, the former X Factor judge feared the worst when she became ill last year.
Dannii dazzles: but last year wasn’t such a happy time for the star Pic: McPix / Rex Features
Dannii Minogue looks the picture of health with her gorgeous cropped haircut and glowing skin, but last year was a very different story as the star feared she had cancer.
The former X Factor judge had supported big sister Kylie through her brave battle with breast cancer, so when she began to lose weight and noticed her hair was thinning, alarm bells started sounding.
In Fabulous magazine, available in tomorrow’s The Sun, Dannii explained: “In my darkest moments I did really worry — because of family history — it could be something that serious.
“The last year was incredibly tough.”
Eventually she was diagnosed with a thyroid condition.
The Australian judge / singer / actress told Stella magazine: “My thyroid stopped working and I had appendicitis.
“Leading up to that, I was getting thinner and thinner and stressing because I didn’t know what it was.
“Normally you put on weight if you have an under-active thyroid but there is a percentage of people that have it reversed. It got very hard to concentrate, you can’t sleep and I got very weak.”
She continued: “I was finding it hard to pick Ethan up and I was thinking, ‘I’m a new mum, I know I’m tired but surely it can’t be this hard?’
“When you’ve just had a baby you think it must be normal tiredness but it got to the point where I thought, ‘This can’t be normal’.”
Dannii is now feeling much better and has been enjoying time in the UK promoting her new My Style book.
Add to that her job as a judge on Australia’s Got Talent, her successful Project D fashion line and beautiful baby Ethan and she is certainly a busy lady. Room for a spot on the Britain’s Got Talent judging panel next year? She’s not ruling it out just yet…
Dannii Minogue‘s accession to fashion royalty’s now complete thanks to Pippa Middleton.
Kate Middleton’s little sister chose a slinky flower print maxi dress by Dannii Minogue and Tabitha Somerset Webb’s label Project D for the Too Many Women Autumn Dinner & All Saints Party this week.
Pippa – who’s worn British designers Alexander McQueen and Temperley in the past – chose a red hot low-cut gown for the Boodles Charity boxing night but chose a far more demure high-necked number for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer event.
She totally outshone Sienna Miller who attended the same party in a Matthew Williamson Spring/Summer 2011 feather-strewn frock.
This is the second time Pippa‘s worn one of Dannii Minogue and Tabitha Somerset Webb’s dresses. She chose another floral frock for a wedding in September.
Pippa’s Project D Elle Botanical maxi dress is 100% silk with built-in shoulder pads and a concealed zip fastening.
Money no object? Buy Pippa Middleton‘s exact dress on My-Wardrobe.com for the princely sum of £623.
To celebrate my new book, My Style, hitting bookstores this month I thought it would be fun to show you some pictures from behind-the-scenes of the making of the book.
It takes a number of people and a huge amount of work to get a book ready for publishing. It was fabulous to be reunited with photographer Jonty Davies, who shot me for Marie Claire.
We had an incredibly tight schedule, taking all the book’s ‘hero’ shots – the cover and the chapter opening images – over a two-day photo shoot. It was an intense couple of days but we had a lot of laughs along the way.
Team My Style descended on The Soho Hotel in London, taking over a couple of their fabulous suites so that we had lots of options for background settings. I worked with My UK style consultant Angie Smith to source a roomful of gorgeous gowns and the accessories for the shoot covered every surface in one of the bathrooms.
By now you might have seen the finished product, but here are some of the stories behind the photos…
